CHICO - The Chico Mall hosted a blood drive on Sunday, with a little help from Blood Source.

Chicoans braved the needle as part of the mall's huge President's Weekend clearance sale.

A Chico mall marketing manager says they decided to collect blood on this day due to the unusual flu outbreak this winter season.

"The severe flu this season has lowered their donation amount. A lot of people that would normally give are out with the flu, so every blood type is needed right now,” said Lynette Myers, marketing manager for the Chico Mall.

People who went to the drive also got a free movie pass.
