CHICO, Calif. - The annual "Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs!" free fishing day in Chico is Saturday, May 19th, at Horseshoe Lake in Upper Bidwell Park.
It's one of the largest single-day children's fishing events in the entire United States.
Kids 15 and under are invited to come to the lake from 7:00 AM to Noon, and they're almost sure to catch one of the 8,000 pounds of channel catfish planted for the event.
Admission is FREE, along with all tackle, bait, and instruction by volunteer fishing coaches. There is a limit of 1 fish per child and kids can even have their catfish cleaned for free.
No fishing license is required for anglers under 16. There will be a separate area for the littlest anglers, age 1 to 5.
Since parking is limited, a free shuttle will run from Wildwood Park at the entrance to Upper Bidwell Park.
To donate, volunteer, or for more information about the event you can call (530) 891-4757. We also have a link to the event website here.
