CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Fire Department said they have changed their dispatch and response intake protocols in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The department said dispatch will ask the patient and inform first responders if the patient is suffering from symptoms possibly related to the coronavirus.

If they show up on the scene first to someone who is ill, they will be suited up with googles, N95 mask, a gown and do a 6-foot assessment and ask questions on the status of the patient.

"We'll put a mask on the patient and then render care, we'll get them packaged and helped the medics get them to the ambulance and hospital," said Chico Fire Chief Steve Standridge.

The Chief says the calls they will go on immediately without going through the protocols are cardiac arrest, an unconscious patient and traumatic medical events.

Although temperatures began to rise today around northern California, our weather was still quite pleasant for early August. Enjoy the below-average highs will we have them, because hotter weather will return soon.
