Chico Fire Officials are investigating what they're calling a "suspicious" fire at Alpha Garden Supply in Chico early Monday morning.

Investigators say it started inside the back area of the business on W. 7th and Walnut Street at around 5 a.m. Monday. Chico Fire crews quickly contained the fire, with smoke damage throughout the building and some fire damage.

Officials say when crews arrived the building was completely locked, and there were flames raging inside as soon as they got the doors opened. Investigators say it looked like the fire started from outside near or in a trashcan near the back door, which then burned through the botton seal to inside.

Investigators say a witness saw someone on a bike fleeing the area but haven't confirmed yet if they are related.

This is a developing story. We will update this article as we learn more.
