CHICO, Calif. - A new receptionist will greet people heading to the third floor of Chico's City Hall.
Within the past couple of months, the office has put in an Alice the Receptionist machine. The electronic receptionist can call different departments in the building, check-in for interviews, ask questions, and call the main receptionist if needed.
City Manager Mark Orme admitted it's a way to save the city some money but also keep things personable.
"So when you have limited resources, we are living in our means right now," Orme said. "This was another opportunity to be able to deliver to the public a cost-effective measure and give them what they want, and that is to be connected to the right department."
The greeter can communicate in a number of languages and different people are displayed on the screen rotated, to provide diversity.
Currently, the city has a three-year contract with Alice the Receptionist machine.
