CHICO, Calif. – The Chico City Council is moving forward with a plan to charge parking fees in Upper Bidwell Park.
Tuesday night, Councilmembers approved the fees to help pay for maintenance and repairs to Upper Park road.
Councilmembers Karl Ory and Ann Schwab voted against it. That fee is $2 per car, or $24 for an annual parking pass.
However, there would be some exemptions. The city council directed staff to come up with an “implementation plan” that is more detailed on what exemptions would include. That plan will be returned to the city council for final approval.
Part of the road has been closed due to storm damage. The fees won’t take effect until road repairs are complete in the fall.
The Chico City Council approved opening to vehicles once repairs are complete, on Upper Park Road to the end of the dirt road on Tuesday and Wednesday. And to Salmon Hole on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday and Monday would be closed to vehicles.
However, it will always be open to people on foot, bicycles, or horses.
