CHICO, Calif. - Chico Mayor, Ann Schwab, announced Tuesday afternoon the city council meeting has been postponed out of concern for the health and safety of community members.
The meeting will take place Aug. 25, at 6 p.m., according to Mayor Schwab. Three factors led to the decision including excessive heat warning, air quality that is moderate or unhealthy for sensitive groups, and the potential for power outages. Schwab says all these factors combined do not promote active participation by the city's residents in tonight's council meeting.
“City Council deliberations and decisions are best informed with community involvement," Mayor Ann Schwab stated. "The excessive heat, diminished air quality, and the potential for power outages decrease the ability for Chico residents to contribute to our decision making process. Adjourning to Tuesday, August 25, 2020 will provide a better opportunity for engagement.”
