Chico Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is Sunday

37th year for the annual event.

Sunday, January 20th marks the 37th year for the Chico Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

It starts at 2:30 p.m. with a rally at Chico City Plaza, followed by a March through downtown Chico led by children carrying banners and posters.  The march ends at Trinity United Methodist Church at East 5th and Flume Streets.

An inspirational program starts at the church at 4 p.m. followed by a shared community dinner in the church Social Hall. 

The keynote speaker this year is Greg Shafer, who will slpeak about the "Poor People's Campaign - A National Call for Moral Revival", which is a continuation of Dr. King's Poor People's Campaign.   It ended when the Civil Rights Leader was assassinated 51 years ago.

The family event is free to attend and the public is invited. 

Sponsoring Organizations include the MLK Unity Group, Trinity United Methodist Church, Second Baptist Church, Rhema World of FAITH and the Chico Peace & Justice Center.
