CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Art Center is open again. The center is open Friday through Sunday every weekend. On Friday it's open from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Right now the Art of Remembrance Exhibition is up. It will be up until December 13th, 2020.
Action News Now spoke to the Gallery Director who says they are excited to be open once again.
"We have been able to serve our community while we have been closed," said Kelly.
She says they had exhibits online, and their artists and audience were supportive of being closed.
However, Kelly added they expressed they did want to reopen.
"When we were able to have the go ahead we thought well this exhibition which is annual would be a great way to open because it is completely community-driven," said Kelly.
The exhibition is called the 'Art of Remembrance' and Kelly says anyone from the community is welcome to bring in an offering to honor a loved one or just add their name to the wall.
Kelly says during COVID-19 artists had to get even more creative with their art.
"We are innately creative thinkers and problem solvers. So I have been very impressed and inspired by what artists have been doing online by vamping up their Facebook pages and using Instagram," said Kelly.
One Butte College artist said it's been harder for her.
"Well like when I was going to the campus you could go into the lab and see other people's work and be inspired by that and be like 'oh I want to try that' or something along those lines. Now I only have my own work and the internet to work off so it is different," said Chauvin.
Lydia Chauvin is a student who contributed to the exhibition and says the Art Center being open is inspiring her.
"Really nice to see everyone else's work, that is something I have always enjoyed seeing other people and how they do things," said Chauvin.
Kelly added the Chico Art Center is non-profit and any of the art sold goes directly to the artists who made it.
