UPDATE: 4:26 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - Chico State police said they have arrested three Chico residents with the help of surveillance footage, interviews, and information from community members regarding the arson incident at UPD.

Chico State University police said they located video surveillance, showing a person lighting an object and placing it onto a parked UPD vehicle on May 31, around 2:30 a.m., along the 200 block of Normal Avenue.

As seen in the surveillance video attached, the PSD notified a sergeant, who arrived on the scene and began chasing the suspect on foot. However, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby. The sergeant described seeing two subjects run to the vehicle and another subject seated parked in the vehicle.

The University Police Department requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Chico field office. FBI agents and UPD personnel began processing both crime scenes.

Through investigation, officers said they were able to arrest three people. 21-year-old Jesus "Mari" Maria Magana, 20-year-old Clarissa Pauline Volasigs, and 20-year-old Autum Nichole Cossins were all arrested by Tuesday and booked into the Butte County Jail on three counts of arson.

Officers said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact UPD at 530-898-5555. You can remain anonymous and tip via text, keyword CHICOSTATE and your tip message to 847411.
