UPDATE: 4:26 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - Chico State police said they have arrested three Chico residents with the help of surveillance footage, interviews, and information from community members regarding the arson incident at UPD.
Chico State University police said they located video surveillance, showing a person lighting an object and placing it onto a parked UPD vehicle on May 31, around 2:30 a.m., along the 200 block of Normal Avenue.
As seen in the surveillance video attached, the PSD notified a sergeant, who arrived on the scene and began chasing the suspect on foot. However, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby. The sergeant described seeing two subjects run to the vehicle and another subject seated parked in the vehicle.
The University Police Department requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Chico field office. FBI agents and UPD personnel began processing both crime scenes.
Through investigation, officers said they were able to arrest three people. 21-year-old Jesus "Mari" Maria Magana, 20-year-old Clarissa Pauline Volasigs, and 20-year-old Autum Nichole Cossins were all arrested by Tuesday and booked into the Butte County Jail on three counts of arson.

CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police searching for the suspects responsible for arson at the University Police Department in Chico.
The suspects appeared to be at least two males approximately 5'8" tall, with thin builds and wearing dark clothing and masks. They fled the scene in a dark Ford SUV, rear license plates removed.
Police say this occurred on Sunday, May 31, at 2:30 a.m., when two unknown suspects wearing dark clothing walked along Normal Avenue in the 200 block and ignited multiple plants located in nearby planter boxes.
The suspects fled the scene just prior to police arrival.
Later that morning at 4:26 a.m., two unknown suspects wearing dark clothing lit a Molotov cocktail and attempted to throw it onto an unoccupied University Police vehicle that was parked inside the parking structure located at 218 Normal Ave, according to the police.
A UPD officer interrupted the arson and chased after the suspects. The suspects fled the area in an older model Ford SUV, dark in color, that was parked nearby with its engine running.
The suspects appeared to be males, 5’8” tall with thin builds. They were wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts, dark pants, and had masks covering their faces. The SUV’s rear license plate had been removed.
