REDDING, Calif. – A multi-agency manhunt landed a wanted felon in the Shasta County Jail over the weekend.
On March 21, around 3:39 p.m., a Redding Police Officer and his canine partner, Otto, were on patrol when they spotted a red sport utility car in the area of E. Cypress Ave. and Bechelli Lane. Police said the car was driven by 32-year-old Ruben Ybarra of Redding, who the officer recognized from prior arrests.
Ybarra had eight warrants for his arrest, is currently on Post Release Community Supervision and is a convicted felon, according to RPD.
Ybarra led police on a chase from E. Cypress and Bechelli Lane all the way to Red Bluff. Ybarra pulled into the Home Depot parking lot and ran on foot into the Holiday Inn, according to the Redding Police Department.
Police, CHP, and Sheriff’s Deputies surrounded the hotel and K-9 Officer Otto helped locate Ybarra in a locked closet. Authorities said Ybarra tried to escape down a laundry shoot but an officer was waiting to arrest him.
He was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony evasion, resisting arrest and his warrants, which included charges for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and failure to appear for felony and misdemeanor charges, according to RPD. This is the eleventh time Ybarra has been arrested in the past two years.
