Northern California - The Record Searchlight is moving its printing operations out of Shasta County, to Butte County.
Starting July 20, 2020, the Chico Enterprise Record will take over the printing of the Redding-based newspaper.
According to representatives from the Record Searchlight, the papers are not merging, but they are simply contracting with the Enterprise Record for printing. The Searchlight will be closing its packing center. Their building may be put up for sale as early as mid-July.
Record Searchlight readers should not notice any changes, because the content and delivery will remain the same.
Another change in the North State newspaper publishing scene brings new hope to staff and readers of the Chico News & Review.
The Chico paper stopped printing the weekly newspaper right after the COVID-19 shutdown.
The paper's publisher blamed a loss of advertising and the closure of many stores and businesses that were distribution locations for the free publication.
The employees kept reporting online. Also, many readers donated money. It was help from a federal paycheck protection loan that has seemed to make a difference. The Chico News & Review will be printing again, at least through October.
After that, the future remains uncertain.
