Police and firefighters in Massachusetts teamed up to save a choking puppy and the act was all caught on camera.

Just after lunch time Monday, Megan Vitale came rushing into the North Reading Police station, with her puppy, Bodhi.

Little Bodhi was choking and couldn't breathe.

As you can see from this surveillance video, Officer Jorge Hernandez wasted no time: springing into action using a version of the Heimlich maneuver on the nine-week-old Saint Bernard.

"So the first couple of compressions weren't really doing anything and I tried to squeeze a little harder and I kind of heard a puff of air come out," Officer Hernandez said.

Meanwhile, members of the North Reading Fire Department stationed on the other side of the building came rushing over with oxygen for the puppy which they applied with a special mask they use on animals.

"Hooked him up to that and gave him some oxygen to kind of pad him to keep him going," said Chris Hadley, a North Reading Fire Fighter.

Before the incident, Bodhi had been with his new family for less than 24 hours.

A piece of his lunch just went down the wrong pipe.

"You treat everything the same,” said Officer Peter Dipietro. “You see someone or something that's in distress and you do what you can to help, and that's what we're trained to do. That’s what we did."

Thankfully, the prognosis is good and Bodhi is resting comfortably. Bodhi’s owner said she is so grateful to the police and fire departments.
