CHICO, Calif. - Beginning on Aug. 10, a portion of the Caper Acres playground in Lower Bidwell Park will be closed to begin the installation of new, large shade sails and to resurface the Nico Dragon Play Area, according to the City of Chico.
The Nico Play Area and a section of the main playground leading from the service gate to the play area will be fenced off during construction.
Work is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until roughly mid-October 2021.
Other areas of the Caper Acres Playground will remain open during normal playground hours.
REM Construction, Incorporated was awarded the contract to perform the work. Several new pieces of play equipment will also be installed.
Approximately $65,000 in donations from the community and from the City’s and CARD’s Proposition 68 Per Capita grant funds from the California Department of Parks & Recreation made the Nico Shade and Resurfacing Project possible.
The City is working with the community to enhance other parts of the playground, such as a Monkey Face Zip-Line Play Area.
