Caltrans makes changes to Highway 299 schedule

The Highway 299 schedule is changing as crews look to expedite repairs from the Monument Fire and rockslides.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Caltrans is changing its schedule on Highway 299 to expedite repairs from the Monument Fire and rockslides.

Caltrans said the work is to ensure the work is completed before the peak winter season.

Beginning Monday, Highway 299 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday from Cedar Flat to just east of Big Bar.

There will be three times of opening at 7:30 a.m., noon and 4:15 p.m.

People traveling through the area should arrive no more than 15 minutes before the opening times.

The vehicles will be escorted by a pilot car simultaneously from each side.

From 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., one-way traffic will be in effect. On Sunday, it will be one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Monument Fire is fully contained at 223,124 acres.
