SUSANVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate at California's High Desert State Prison was fatally stabbed in an attack by two other prisoners.

Corrections officials say 24-year-old Christian Lepe was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the prison near Susanville.

The state says staff observed 26-year-old inmate Ricardo Palmerin start the attack and then another inmate, 27-year-old David Morales, joined in.

Officials say officers stopped the attack by firing rubber bullets at Palmerin and recovered two inmate-made weapons.

Lepe was serving a nine-year term from Tulare County for assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes. Palmerin was sent to prison from Kings County and Morales came from San Francisco County.

We've had a mostly sunny valley with a few more clouds over the mountains today, but it's been another beautiful day with warmer highs than yesterday. Much warmer weather is headed our way this weekend... enjoy, but stay cool!
