SACRAMENTO, Calif. - On Monday, California will become the first state in the country to require point-of-sale background checks on ammunition.

Proposition 63 will take effect on July 1.

Tuesday, Governor Gavin Newsom and State Attorney General Xavier Becerra talked about upholding what they say are sensible gun laws.

"Right now, at this moment, as we speak, you can buy unlimited rounds of ammunition on your smartphone, have it delivered to your doorstep the next day," Newsom said. "You can be in possession of an illegal firearm that you may have assembled or illegal firearm you got from a friend or family member or you found or purchased illegally. And you can buy, legally, unlimited rounds of ammunition with no questions asked. On Monday, that changes."

All purchases and transfers of ammunition will be subject to a background check and authorization from the California Department of Justice.

The final Friday of November was a beautiful one for northern California with plentiful sunshine, warmer than average temperatures and weaker wind. We can expect plenty of sunshine and continued mild weather this weekend.
