MAGALIA, Calif. – One person died and another was taken away in an ambulance with moderate to major injuries in a crash on New Skyway just past Pentz Road, California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. and it involved a car driving off the road, falling 60 feet, hitting a tree and spinning around, Cal Fire said.

Witnesses said the car was speeding and driving recklessly when it came around a corner too fast.

Both people in the vehicle were wearing their seatbelts and it is undetermined if drugs or alcohol were a factor, CHP said.

Cal Fire said Skyway will remain closed for the next half hour. Drivers are advised to use Old Skyway instead.

Cal Fire said a motorcyclist crashed at the same location two weeks ago and it's unknown the motorcyclist survived.

CHP, Cal Fire, Paradise Fire and Butte County Sheriff's are all on the scene.

We've had a mostly sunny valley with a few more clouds over the mountains today, but it's been another beautiful day with warmer highs than yesterday. Much warmer weather is headed our way this weekend... enjoy, but stay cool!
