GRIDLEY, Calif. - Cal Fire worked with a local property owner to host a live-fire training in Gridley on Thursday.
Rick Carhart, Cal Fire’s Spokesperson, said they planned to burn a building down but due to the wind, Cal Fire did not risk burning the building down. They will reschedule the event.
"Something like this gives us a real chance to get into an actual structure that is very similar to other structures that are still standing,” said Carhart. “It gives them a chance to get into a realistic environment and see what the conditions are for when they are doing a sweep to make sure nobody is inside or doing an interior attack."
Volunteers and career firefighters from across Butte County participated in the training, according to Carhart.
This was the second event in a month that Cal Fire has hosted.
One more training evolution to go today at the Gridley Training Exercise. High winds have made us call off complete demolition for the day. We will reschedule. Still able to accomplish valuable drills. pic.twitter.com/GqO3t0pnC5
