UPDATE 7:51 a.m., Dec. 15, 2020 - An early Tuesday morning fire destroyed one Chico mobile home, displacing the homeowners.

Cal Fire Butte Co. Battalion Chief Garrett Needles told Action News Now just after 5 a.m., a call came in about a double-wide mobile home with smoke showing.

The fire was inside the Royal Palms mobile home park on 2135 Nord Ave., in the city of Chico.

Once firefighters arrived at the scene they located the source of the smoke in the attic and made an aggressive attack to contain the fire. Needles says fire crews had the flames knocked down within 15 minutes.

Nobody was injured during the fire including the occupants of the home - a male and female - who are now displaced.

The Red Cross has been called by Cal Fire to assist the residents displaced.

The damage of the fire was noticeable in the front and side of the home.

A neighbor told Action News Now that a firefighter informed him that the fireplace may have played a factor in the fire occurring. But that has not been confirmed by Cal Fire. The cause is still under investigation.
