CHICO, Calif. - Cal Fire crews knocked down an early morning structure fire in north Chico on Monday.

It happened around 9 a.m. at 4200 BLK Nord Highway. Before firefighters arrived, they had a 50'x50' warehouse with heavy fire and smoke coming out. Power lines were also knocked down, according to Cal Fire.

The warehouse contained a commercial beehive operation, full of bee boxes. The boxes are all empty and destroyed due to the fire. The bee farmer said he had about 30 active bees but lost dozens along with other equipment.

Firefighters are now working on mop-up and overhaul of the building.
