REDDING, Calif. – Cal Fire Law Enforcement officials arrested a woman Monday after they say she started a fire in Shasta County.

Around 12:45 p.m., Crews responded to a vehicle fire that spread to the vegetation in the area of Big Bend Road, one mile north of Highway 299. The fire burned a Volkswagen Jetta and a quarter acre of vegetation.

Authorities say witnesses told them they saw a woman walking along Big Bend Road, south of the fire’s location at the time of the incident.

Two hours later, Sheriff Deputies located 24-year-old Clarissa Clark of Montgomery Creek. Clark admitted to starting the fire and was arrested for arson to property, arson of forestland and carrying a concealed dagger, according to Cal Fire.

Clark was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
