CHICO, Calif. - Vaccine sites across Northern California have been very busy lately, and volunteers are dedicating their time to make them possible.

Audrey Tennis has been a Butte County COVID-19 vaccine volunteer since December.

“I feel so good about being able to help people and see their smiles,” Tennis said.

Sacrificing her time to serve is important to Tennis.

"When I got it then I of course want everyone else to get it, so we can have a healthy community again,” said Tennis.

There are many different jobs on the site other than just giving the shots.

Tennis said it takes an army of people to run the event and there are more jobs than just giving the shots such as checking eligibility and keeping clipboards sanitized.

For volunteers, vaccine sites serve as a place for service and potentially salvation.

“This is our World War II moment,” Tennis said. “We all help our community. We all do what we can."

Amanda Veleroni is also a volunteer that is proud to have the opportunity to serve.

"I have really good friends in Mexico, and they are saying, 'Wow, I can't believe that you are getting to volunteer,’” said Veleroni.

They believe that each shot in the arm is one step closer to herd immunity.

"There's a lot of thanking of us,” said Veleroni. “And I am like, ‘Thanks for coming.’”

Butte County Public Health said there is no immediate need for volunteers at their vaccination sites, but other counties in the area such as Shasta and Trinity are looking for clinical volunteers.

Cloudy skies and very light scattered showers are lingering across northern California for the start of your Wednesday, but we'll be clearing out and warming up Wednesday afternoon. We'll be sunny and warmer on Thursday, but clouds will increase Friday. More showers are looking likely Friday night into Saturday, but we'll dry out again for Halloween on Sunday.
