UPDATE: 10:07 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 - One driver is dead and another driver is facing major injuries after a Thursday morning collision in south Oroville.

CHP Officers said the collision happened just after 8:10 a.m. on Lincoln Boulevard north of Monte Vista Ave.

The driver of the teal GMC SUV was traveling northbound on Lincoln Boulevard north of Monte Vista Avenue. A maroon Lincoln sedan was driving southbound on Lincoln Boulevard north of Walmer Road at a high rate of speed, according to Oroville CHP officer, Benjamin Draper. The marron sedan lost control in a sweeping turn and swerved into the oncoming northbound lane.

The passenger side of the maroon sedan collided with the front end of the teal SUV and both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane, said Officer Draper.

The driver of the maroon sedan was killed due to the crash. Officers said the driver of the teal SUV suffered major injuries and was transported to Enloe Medical Center.

CAL FIRE, Oroville Fire, and the Butte County Sheriff and Public Works responded to the scene. The CHP said in a Facebook post, "This is a reminder to slow down when the roads are wet, please be careful."

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
