The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash along Highway 99 in Chico Sunday night.

According to the CHP, the crash happened just before 9:30 p.m.

A 1992 Toyota pickup was traveling northbound on Highway 99 just south of the East 5th Avenue under crossing.

The truck then veered into the center median, hitting a guardrail. The Toyota travelled back across the north bound lanes before going over the right shoulder and crashing into a tree.

The truck ended up on it's roof, then caught on fire. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity hasn't been released.

The CHP is investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
