TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. - One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 299, near mile marker 2.5. It happened at approximately 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, California Highway Patrol Redding said.

A 2014 Toyota pickup truck was being driven by a 30-year-old female going westbound when she ran off the road at a curb near the Salyer area between the rock slide bar and frill. She flew into a dirt embankment and continued into a dirt and grass field before colliding with a tree and stopping.

Redding CHP dispatch page mentions that the car was potentially teetering on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Trinity River.

Action News Now could not confirm that fact, but dispatch has confirmed a death in the crash.

Alcohol is considered a possible factor at this time, according to CHP Redding.
