LOOKOUT, Calif. – A major injury roll-over occurred on County Road 91 in Modoc County on Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported an incident at approximately 10:45 a.m. at mile marker 18, which is approximately 15 miles north of Lookout.

According to CHP Officer Tyler Froeming a 38-year-old man from Reno was traveling northbound on 91 while on his way to Portland, Oregon.

Officer Froeming said the man told them he became distracted when his attention diverted from the road ahead of him to his cell phone. When he looked back up, he told officers, he was traveling off the road in his 2018 Jeep Cherokee.

The jeep rolled at least once, said Froeming, leaving the driver with a head injury. The man was able to get out of the Jeep unassisted, and was “alert, oriented, and conscious” when the CHP arrived.

Due to his head injury, he was flown out to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, said Froeming. He explained the name of the injured man is not being released at this time.
