SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. – A 10-year-old boy was killed in a crash in Sutter County on Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision happened on Highway 20 east of S. Tarke Road around 6:30 p.m.

CHP said 29-year-old Tony Daniel Kesterson and a 10-year-old boy, both from Colusa, were speeding down Highway 20 in a 2007 Ford Fusion when, for an unknown reason, they crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a concrete wall.

An oncoming pickup truck attempted to stop but wasn’t able to in time and crashed into the car’s right rear side, CHP said.

Both vehicles came to a rest blocking both the east and westbound lanes of SR-20.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver Kesterson, suffered major injuries.

CHP said they’re still investigating what caused Kesterson to drive into the wall, but added that alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
