CHICO, Calif. - The Ceo and President of Chico Chamber of Commerce, Katie Simmons, is stepping down after having held the position since 2012.

Simmons says that working with businesses on public safety has been the most impactful for her in this career.

Her team has been working closely with both downtown businesses and Chico police to come up with plans of action for community-oriented policing.

"We've seen so many good changes happen there in terms of our conversations with businesses about their rights reporting and prosecuting and tightening that engagement with the police department," Simmons said. "It's like giving them the tools they need to be really productive to keep their store safe and those kinds of things."

Simmons will now be the Vice President of Operations for the Associated General Contractors Team base in Sacramento.

In November, Vice President Kelsey Torres will take over as interim President.

Search for a permanent replacement is underway.

A trough of low pressure is moving over northern California this afternoon and tonight, and that will increase our wind speed and raise our area's fire danger even further. The wind will be weaker Thursday, but the smoke will get worse.
