CAL FIRE volunteers prep for wildfire season

CAL FIRE Butte Unit had intensive hands-on learning at the volunteer academy over the weekend.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - It was a busy weekend for CAL FIRE volunteers who spent time training for "what ifs" in wildland fire.

Butte County CAL FIRE shared images of the training on its social media.

Recruits worked with deploying a fire shelter, cutting fire lines, and starting control burns.

The team also practiced working with chainsaws.

The fire academy, hands-on training last throughout the month.
