1 person killed in north Chico structure fire, Victim identified

Cal Fire confirmed one person is dead after a structure fire in north Chico.

UPDATE: 6:10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020 - The Butte County Sheriff's Office says 83-year-old Alan Padgett has been identified as the man killed in the structure fire.

CHICO, Calif. - Cal Fire has confirmed one person is dead after a structure fire in north Chico.

The fire was first reported around 12 p.m. on Oct. 28 to a home on Rancho Road.

Cal Fire Public Information Officer, Rick Carhart, told Action News Now the structure was a complete loss. Carhart said a vehicle was also completely burned in the fire.

After knocking down the flames, Cal Fire says their team did a search of the home and found the body inside the destroyed building.

The fire did not spread to any vegetation and there is no threat to other structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Dry weather, sunny skies, warmer temperatures, and gusty north winds will drive elevated fire danger today. We'll have even stronger winds, but cooler temperatures on Tuesday. Fire danger will remain elevated. There will also be a chance for light showers in the Sierra on Tuesday and Wednesday.
