IGO, Calif. – CAL FIRE crews in Shasta County are performing a control burn at the West Central Landfill on Clear Creek Road.

Crews said the burn will be 200 acres in size. As of this afternoon, the burn is putting up a lot of smoke. CAL FIRE is asking you to not call 911 to report this.

“The burn is going as planned and is within all control lines,” said CAL FIRE SHU via Twitter. They currently have eight fire engines, two water tenders, and three firefighter hand crews, along with one dozer at the scene.

CAL FIRE stresses the importance of these control burns in order to reduce hazardous fuels and decrease the chances of catastrophic wildfires.
