BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - Butte County Supervisors have declared a local drought emergency.

The resolution cites a need for increased storage, water distribution, public education and to stop water theft.

It also points to unusually warm temperatures accelerating the already limited snowmelt in area watersheds, reducing expected supplies by more than 500,000 acre-feet.

The emergency declaration will allow the county to apply for available state and federal dollars to help with response and recovery.

Another disturbance will cross northern California through tomorrow. The biggest effect will be stronger wind in the valley tonight through Thursday. There are no watches or warnings for fire danger, but the wind won't help.
