CHICO, Calif. - Butte County has re-certified its 2020 Election results. The new numbers will account for 529 ballots accidentally left in a vote drop box on the Chico State Campus.

On December 8, the office discovered a sealed official ballot drop box that contained mail ballots that were deposited prior to the November 3, 2020 deadline at 8:00 p.m. The drop was located outside of the Bell Memorial Union. These ballots were not included in the certified results published on November 30, 2020.

Once recounted -- those votes did not change the outcome of any local races, however, Measure E, which confirmed Chico's District Based Council -- passed by a narrower margin of 95 votes.

Butte County's Election manager says not collecting ballots in the dropbox on the Chico State Campus was due to a miscommunication and his office is working to making sure it doesn't happen again, but their main priority was making sure all ballots were counted.
