BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A bill to speed up the construction process for housing in Butte County because of the Camp Fire is receiving some criticism from several county leaders.
The bill, AB 430, was proposed by Assemblyman Gallagher and passed the natural resources committee unanimously just last week.
However, County Supervisors Tami Ritter and Debra Luero, Chico Mayor Randall Stone, as well as Councilmember Ann Schwab said they are opposed to the bill.
Mayor Stone says this bill is a government overreach into the community.
Other critics believe Butte County does, "not need a state mandate" to streamline development.
The next step for the bill is to be voted on by the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
