BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said that officers involved in a fatal shooting from November of 2018 face no criminal liability.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said it did appear that GD Hendrix, 48, of Berry Creek, imitated an armed attack on officers, which can be seen in the video.

Ramsey released dash cam footage of the Nov. 15, 2018, shooting on Nov. 20, 2018. The video was shot after officers pursued Hendrix in a high-speed chase down Highway 70, near an area burned by the Camp Fire.

Ramsey also said that Hendrix was a prime suspect in a December 2015 double-homicide of a Plumas County couple who were visiting their son in the Berry Creek area.

He was taken into custody but then released.

Then in June of 2018, Hendrix cut off his GPS tracker and was on the loose.

After the pursuit with officers in November of 2018, he was asked to step out of the car with his hands up. Hendrix is seen on the tape without his hands up and his body turned away from officers.

Ramsey said Hendrix formed a gunman stance while holding an object that looked like a gun, which they later discovered was a pipe. Five officers shot 29 bullets, killing Hendrix.

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea was also at the press conference and told Action News Now that officers have to make split-second decisions. Considering Hendrix's stance and the position he was holding the pipe, Honea said that the shooting was reasonable under that circumstance.
