BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office saved a kitten that was lost in its building's construction.

The office said deputies found the kitten at the bottom of a pit in their Chico substation's parking lot.

Construction is currently underway to update their radio towers.

Deputies pulled out the kitten and took it to be checked out at Erickson Veterinary Hospital.

The office named the kitten Gus after its rescuer, Deputy Gustavo Diaz.

The kitten will be up for adoption soon. Anyone that is interested in adopting the kitten is asked to call the veterinary hospital at 530-343-5896.
