UPDATE 8:24 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 - The Butte County Sheriff's Office identified the man killed in the officer-involved shooting as 52-year-old Richard Moulton, from Red Bluff.
Detectives from the Red Bluff Police Department say Moulton was wanted for attempted murder that stemmed from a domestic violence incident involving his estranged wife.
According to the victim, Moulton slapped her, bit her face, choked her, attempted to gouge out her eyes, and threatened to kill her. The Sheriff's Office says the victim was able to get away, at which time Moulton fired nine shots in her direction, which hit her home.
Moulton fled the scene. Butte County Sheriff Deputies spotted Moulton's vehicle in the Durham area. The Sheriff's Office says after a pursuit, it ended at Highway 162 and Aguas Frias Road.
The Sheriff's Office says Moulton brought out a handgun, then put the handgun to his head. He then lowered the handgun and exited the vehicle, at which time he raised the gun in the direction of the deputies, and then shots were fired in response to that.
The Sheriff's Office says life-saving measures were initiated immediately however, Moulton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
UPDATE 2:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 - The Butte County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that a man has died in an officer-involved shooting, which ended in Butte County.
According to the Red Bluff Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 400 block of Madison Street in Red Bluff at 10:45 a.m. after reports of multiple shots fired.
When they arrived on the scene, officers learned that a domestic violence incident occurred between a female and her ex-husband. She told officers that the suspect shot multiple rounds from a handgun toward her.
The suspect fled the scene in a red or maroon Ford pick-up truck.
A Butte County Sheriff's Deputy later located the suspect in Butte County after recognizing the vehicle that he fled the scene in Red Bluff with. A vehicle pursuit ensued and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was killed in the shooting.
The female victim was not struck by any of the rounds at during the domestic violence incident and suffered minor injuries during the incident.
The male suspect has not been identified. No officers were injured in the incident.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting off of Highway 162.
According to the sheriff's office, the shooting involved an officer and a murder suspect.
The pursuit began at 12:21 p.m. and ended at Highway 162 at Aguas Frias Road.
The sheriff's office has not confirmed whether anyone was injured in the incident or any information on the suspect's identity.
The officer-involved shooting protocol was initiated and the Butte County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
