UPDATE: 6:06 p.m., Sunday, April 5 - Deputies confirmed the body found inside the vehicle was that of 31-year-old Derick Ray Womack.
CHP says Womack was driving his 1998 Cadillac Deville westbound on West Liberty Road when he reached a dead-end at a gated entrance of the private property. He drove through that gate and into a muddy field where he was able to get back onto a muddy road that bordered a drainage canal.
Womack continued on this road for approximately 600 feet until he encountered a 90-degree turn where he slid off the wet grassy roadway into the canal.
Womack's vehicle landed upsidedown in four to five feet of water trapping him inside. Womack was unable to escape and succumbed to his injuries.
