OROVILLE, Calif. – A press conference will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. where the Butte County District Attorney, Mike Ramsey, will release a report and conclusions of the officer-involved shooting of Stephen Vest by Chico Police officers.
The media and public will be invited to view the conference and submit questions through Facebook Live during the conference. The conference will also be streamed on the DA's YouTube page.
Vest was shot and killed by police officers on October 14, 2020, outside a Petco in Chico.
The incident started at 20th Street Park in south Chico. Police responded to a man attempting to attack people with a knife.
Ramsey says, according to the investigation, Vest then went to the Petco on Martin Luther King Expressway and witnesses say he was jumping on cars. That's when Ramsey says Vest chased a truck driver delivering a load at Petco and a Petco employee into the store.
When police arrived Vest, according to police, advanced on them outside the store with a knife. When Vest did not respond to a taser, Ramsey says two officers fired their weapons. Vest was shot several times. Click here to read more on this investigation.
