Butte County, Calif.—The cost of attending Butte College will soon be a little more affordable thanks to several grants.

Butte College students spend on average $927 per semester on books and supplies.

This is more than the $684 students pay on tuition and fees.

A Butte College survey also found that more than 30% of students take fewer classes due to the price of textbooks.

A percentage of the students took courses without buying books, and ended up withdrawing or failing the class.

The college is now offering 200 sections that have no textbook fees.

Butte Colleges Zero Textbook Cost Coordinator Suzanne Wakim says, Butte College is a leader in the state for saving students money on textbooks.

We have beautiful weather around northern California right now, but it will get a lot more unsettled this weekend as a storm moves overhead. We can expect gusty wind, a big cooldown, and areas of light to moderate rain.
