Butte County, Calif. -- Camp Fire survivors have until next month to apply for a debris removal program after the Butte County Board of Supervisors approved a deadline of February 28 for the alternative fire debris removal program.
It's a chance for property owners to hire a private contractor to remove debris from their structures burned by the blaze.
"The Board of Supervisors took action to set the February 28, 2019 deadline for the alternative program sign up. They could take action in the future to extend that. But it's important to have a deadline so people can start getting into the program and to put contracts in place," said PIO Casey Hatcher.
The board also approved to hire more security guards at emergency operation centers.
It has a budget of more than 10 million dollars, and the money will be reimbursed by FEMA and state aid.
