REDDING, Calif. – A Burney couple was arrested for felony child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in Redding on Saturday, according to the Redding Police Department.
Police said that at approximately 3 p.m. they were patrolling the parking lot of the Redding Aquatic Center on Quartz Hill Road when they noticed a man who “appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance” was seated in a parked vehicle.
34-year-old Jeremy David Garcia of Burney was the man that police discovered in the vehicle. His girlfriend, 34-year-old Katie Elizabeth Lyons, was located by police with the couple’s seven-year-old child close by.
Police said they determined that both Garcia and Lyons “were under the influence of a controlled substance.”
After searching the vehicle, police said that they discovered “a large quantity” of drug paraphernalia, which they said included “foil with burn heroin residue wrapped amongst the juvenile’s clothing.”
Police said “multiple hypodermic type syringes and an estimated 4-5 grams of heroin” were within arm’s reach of the child’s car seat.
Garcia and Lyons were transported and booked in Shasta County Jail. The juvenile was taken into protective custody.
