REDDING, Calif. – A Chico man is accused of breaking into a home and assaulting a man with a wrench in Redding Friday morning.

Redding police responded to the 19000 block of Hollow Lane after a call came in reporting a residential burglary. Officers said the suspect broke through a sliding glass door and began assaulting the man who lived there. The victim's wife hid in the bathroom with their daughter and called 911.

The suspect, Jeremy Raymond Brooks, 45 from Chico, struck the victim with a large metal wrench during the assault, police said. After, Brooks left the area in a maroon 2004 Ford truck. Officers said they began an extensive area check and located the truck in the area of Old Oregon Trail at Oasis Road.

Brooks led officers on a chase until they were able to safely take him into custody off Fawndale Road in the City of Shasta Lake. Brooks was booked at the Shasta County Jail for several charges including residential burglary.
