CHICO, Calif. - Caught on camera, a burglary at a daycare in Chico.
The director of Laura's Preschool said they've had 4 break ins in the last 5 months - the most recent - Tuesday night.
Surveillance video shows the thief picking up a bag, putting it down, then looking toward the camera and pulling his hood up.
then he turns his attention back to the bag and emptying it out.
Director of the school Kelli Koller, said they're mostly stealing food.
"We've had multiple gallons of milk, taquitos, chicken nuggets probably all in all about $2,000 worth of food," Koller said.
Beside the money used to replace the food... Koller says they've spent almost $2,000 on surveillance cameras and other security measures.
"We've changed the locks a couple of times we've added dowels to our windows to keep them from being able to be slid open we lock our refrigerator at night with a really expensive bike lock because he was taking food from the refrigerator from the regular," Koller said.
Even with increased security - Koller says she's worried for the kids' safety.
"It tends to be like between 2:30 and 4:30 in the morning when he comes and I come in at 6:45 by myself or some of my teachers do somedays and I just wonder if he falls asleep inside and sometimes kids will walk in with me when I arrive, what if kids are there when he walks in," Koller said.
Koller says the money she spends on replacing what the burglar stole - she should be spending on the children instead.
"I guess it's just frustrating at the end of the day they're stealing from the kids its money i'm not spending on the kids when im spending money to replace these items that they're stealing, it might be a $20 box of taquitos but that's $20 i'm not spending on art supplies or fun activities for them to do and it's taking me away from the kids to go replace those items," Koller said.
The daycare filed three police reports, but so far no leads.
