Masonic Fire: 100 Percent Contained, Evacuations Lifted

UPDATE 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - The Masonic Fire is 100 percent contained. The Redding Fire Department says all roads are reopened and all evacuation orders are lifted. The origin of the fire was narrowed down to an open space at the end of Masonic Avenue at an established transient camp. A transient was hospitalized with minor burns injuries but released a short time later. We are working to learn from Redding Fire if anyone is being charged for starting the fire.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - The Masonic Fire is 60 percent contained. More than 900 customers of Redding Electric Utility were without power this afternoon due to impacts of the Masonic Fire. Power has been restored to all but six customers, say city officials.

UPDATE 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - The Masonic Fire is a human-caused fire, according to officials from the Redding Fire Department. The origin of the fire was determined to be in the open space at the end of masonic Aven. at an established transient camp. An investigation is in progress. There was significant damage to one home on Barbara Road. Fire crews will remain at the scene through the evening. 120 personnel are working to keep the 38 acre fire contained. 30 engines are involved in the firefight.

UPDATE 3:18 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - The Masonic Fire is being held at 38 acres, but containment is considered "shaky" according to fire officials. Evacuations are still in place but no new evacuations are expected at this time.  N. Market St. is open, but Benton Dr. is closed from Market St. to River Ridge.

UPDATE 1:12 p.m. - Evacuations are still in place for the Masonic Fire. CAL FIRE Shasta County Chief Mike Hebrard told reporters that there was one person who was taken to a local hospital for minor burn injuries.

UPDATE 12:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - According to an official from the Redding Fire Department, the Masonic Fire has a north wind that is pushing it southeast. Preparations are being made to evacuate Hilltop Drive, if necessary, but there is no advisory for North Market Street or Hilltop at this time.

UPDATE 11:22 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 - The Masonic Fire is very close to homes on Barbara Road. The fire is 20 acres in size and is moving rapidly. Our reporter is at the scene. See his Facebook Live reports below. Fire officials say residents south of Benton should be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Already the evacuation orders listed below cover neighborhoods north of Benton Drive, to Lake Blvd., and areas west of Market Street.

REDDING, Calif. - We have a reporter at the scene of a brush fire in the area of Lake Boulevard and Masonic Avenue in Redding. It was noticed Sunday morning, Oct. 14, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m.
