RED BLUFF, Calif. – The Red Bluff Police Department released body camera footage Thursday afternoon that shows the last moments before police took down a shooter at the Walmart Distribution Center. The shooting took place on June 27 at approximately 3:35 p.m.
In the video, Red Bluff Police Chief Kyle Sanders shares that the body camera footage is from the second officer who arrived on the scene of the shooting.
The suspect, Louis Lane, was already engaged in an exchange of gunfire with another officer who arrived on scene first.
Video shows Red Bluff Sergeant Muriga arriving at the Walmart Distribution Center and as he gets out of his car, Lane turns towards Sgt. Murgia armed with a rifle.
The suspect dropped his weapon and fell to the ground next to a pick-up truck. Lane was later transported by Red Bluff Police to St. Elizabeth’s hospital. However, he later died at the hospital.
Louis Wesley Lane, 31, was fired from the distribution center near Red Bluff in February 2019 after failing to show up for work, Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said.
The Tehama County District Attorney Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation and the action of the Red Bluff Police Officers. The bureau said it is important people know they are conducting the investigation so it’s a fair and impartial investigation outside the sheriff's department.
