CHICO, Calif. - Wednesday is a big day for those collecting toys for kids in need over the holidays. The Chico Police Department has joined forces with the Salvation Army for the 2020 "Pack the Patrol Car" Drive-Thru Toy Drive.
People can donate new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages, and the agencies will make sure they are shared with kids and families in need during the holidays.
The drive-thru event is in the parking lot next to the Chico Police Department from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. The entrance is on Humboldt Street and the exit will be on Fir Street.
Blue Santa and others will be in the parking lot collecting the gifts in a Covid-safe scenario as people drive through an organized and fun route through the police parking lot.
On display in the lot will be a variety of police vehicles, a K-9, and the Chico Police Department VIPS vintage police car.
The Salvation Army will be on hand, ringing their signature bell, but also operating their new "virtual" Red Kettle. A scanner on the kettle will provide donation options such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Venmo so people can contribute from their vehicles without making direct contact with the volunteers and organizers.
