Blue Green Algae Bloom Found in Lake Oroville

Bloom is being monitored for toxicity.

Oroville, Calif. - State Parks and Department of Water Resources Officials say a significant blue-green algae bloom has been discovered in the North Fork of Lake Oroville.
While it doesn't pose a danger to swimmers, they say it's a good idea to avoid it.
Officials confirm they are actively monitoring the algae, and testing for toxins.  Lab tests Thursday morning turned up trace levels of a toxin, but it's far below the level that causes a health concern.
The clinical name for blue-green algae is Cyanobacteria.
It's not uncommon in the lake during the summer months. It appears as bright green particles that form streaks, clumps and mats in the water.

Staying hot and hazy today, but relief from the heat is on the way for the middle of this week. We'll also have the potential for mountain thunderstorms on Wednesday. The heat returns this weekend.
