Chico, Calif.-- It is the biggest, pet-friendly event of the year in Chico - the 7th Annual Bidwell Bark.

The fundraiser and 5K raises money for the Butte Humane Society - in the past, it's brought in close to as much as $100,000 to help pay for the vet care, food and shelter for about 2,000 dogs and cats throughout each year.

There is also a 2K walk/run for younger kids - or older dogs!

The main run starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, but there's so much more to come out for, including professional "Disc Dogs" who will do a show at 10:30 a.m. and noon, and a dog costume contest that's open to everyone for a $5 entry fee - and the costumes are pretty elaborative, with tough competition in past years.

More than 300 people are registered to run already, but it's not too late to sign up.

Heather Schoeppach, the even coordinator says the community support is so vital to helping these animals that would otherwise have no hope and no home.

There are all sort of fun activities for kids as well, including a bounce-house, carnival games and plenty of food and concessions.

All dogs are welcome, but asked to remain on a leash.
